Our goal for this project is to create a working prototype that combines a pulse oximeter and a camera to be able to accurately read someone’s blood oxygen saturation level. The problem with a normal pulse oximeter is that it can be about 2% inaccurate based on a patient’s melanin concentration. Our goal is to use the base reading from the pulse oximeter and the RGB value of the user’s skin from a camera image in order to create a model that appropriately determines the actual blood oxygen saturation level. This will allow for more accurate reading of blood oxygen saturation level without bias due to skin color and melanin concentration.
